Tax answers

Tax and Accounting Answers

Straight answers to the questions people ask Google about tax, super and accountants. Each one starts with the short answer, then the current figures, the detail that trips people up, and the official sources we checked.

How these answers work

Every answer shows the date it was last checked against ATO guidance and the income year it applies to. Rates and thresholds usually change on 1 July, so check that date before you rely on a figure.

How we write and check these answers

Each answer is written by the Acquire Strategic Accounting team in Brisbane and checked against the Australian Taxation Office, the Tax Practitioners Board, Fair Work and other official sources. The sources are listed at the bottom of every page so you can read the rule for yourself.

The answers are general information. They explain how the rules work for most people, not what you should do in your situation. If your answer depends on the detail, a short call with us is the quickest way to get it right.

Questions about these answers

Are these answers tax advice?

No. They are general information about Australian tax rules, current at the date shown on each page. They do not take your circumstances into account. For advice on your situation, speak with a registered tax agent.

How do I know an answer is up to date?

Every page shows the date it was last checked against ATO guidance and the income year it applies to. Most rates and thresholds change on 1 July, and some change in the federal Budget, so check the date before relying on a figure.

Can I ask a question that is not listed here?

Yes. Book a strategy call or send us an enquiry. If a question comes up often, we add an answer page for it.
