Accountant Brisbane

Brisbane Accountants for Growing Businesses

Acquire Strategic Accounting is a Brisbane accounting firm with offices in Victoria Point and Jimboomba, built for business owners who want more than a tax return. Here is how we work across the city, what Brisbane businesses ask us most, and why most of that work no longer needs a CBD office.

A Brisbane accounting firm with two front doors

Brisbane is a big, spread-out city and no single office serves it well. Our main office is in Victoria Point on the bayside, about 35 minutes from the CBD, with its own parking. Our second office is VKS Accounting in Jimboomba, covering Logan and the south.

Between the two, and with video for everyone else, we work with businesses from Newstead to Nundah, West End to the bayside, and out to Ipswich and the Gold Coast hinterland. Being outside the CBD means our clients do not pay city rents through their fees, and they do not pay for city parking either.

The group behind the brand is three firms: Acquire Strategic Accounting, VKS Accounting and Veal & Prasad, all founded or acquired by Greg Blackaby. One phone call reaches all of them.

Business accounting and tax in Brisbane

Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling. Every Brisbane client gets tax returns, BAS and bookkeeping done accurately and on time, and we do it on Xero as a Platinum Partner. That part should be boring, and we try hard to keep it that way.

Where it gets interesting is tax planning. Brisbane businesses often grow in bursts: a big contract, a second site in Chermside or Carindale, a new hire who changes the payroll picture. Each burst has tax consequences, and the time to deal with them is before the financial year ends, not when the return is due.

We run planning conversations in the last quarter of each financial year and whenever something big is about to happen. Clients tell us that one habit alone is the biggest difference from their last accountant.

Virtual CFO and business advisory for Brisbane founders

A lot of Brisbane businesses are too big for a bookkeeper and too small for a full-time CFO. That gap is where our virtual CFO work lives. Monthly reporting, cash flow forecasting, scenario modelling and budgets, delivered by people who also understand your tax position.

The questions we model most often: can I afford the lease on the new premises in Fortitude Valley, what happens to cash if a major customer pays sixty days late, and how much do I need to put aside for tax and super so there are no surprises. These are not exotic questions. They are just hard to answer without a forecast.

  • Monthly management reports in plain English
  • Rolling 12-month cash flow forecasts
  • Growth and downside scenarios before a big decision
  • Budget versus actual reviews each quarter
  • A sounding board for pricing, hiring and funding

Structuring, acquisitions and exits across Brisbane

This is the work that gives the firm its name. Greg has spent more than two decades in accounting, structuring and business acquisitions, and that experience is what Brisbane owners come for when they are building a group of entities, buying a competitor or preparing to sell.

Structuring usually means reviewing whether the current mix of companies, trusts and individuals still fits. Growth changes the answer. Asset protection, succession and tax efficiency all pull in slightly different directions, and the job is to find the arrangement that balances them for your situation.

Acquisitions and exits bring valuation, due diligence, deal structuring and negotiation support. We have sat on both sides of the table. Buyers get a clear view of what they are really purchasing. Sellers get a business that has been tidied up well before the first buyer looks at it.

SMSF accounting in Brisbane

Self-managed super is popular with Brisbane business owners, often because they want their premises or an investment property held in super. We handle SMSF accounting for funds holding property, shares, managed funds, commodities and crypto, and we coordinate with the fund's independent auditor each year.

The compliance rules for SMSFs are strict and the ATO is active in this space, so the accounting needs to be clean. If your fund holds anything unusual, we are used to the questions that come with it.

Why Brisbane businesses choose Acquire

Award nominations are a shorthand for what clients say in private. The group was nominated for Firm of the Year 2024, LYD Strategist of the Year 2024, the Grant Abbott Innovation Award 2024 and the Karbon Excellence Award for Client Excellence 2025.

Behind that is a simpler promise: we talk like founders, not auditors. Straight strategy, creative thinking, no jargon. If you want an accountant who will tell you what they would do in your shoes, that is the service.

Questions we get asked

Where is your Brisbane office?

Our main office is at 7/222 Colburn Avenue, Victoria Point QLD 4165, on Brisbane's bayside in the Redlands, with on-site parking. It is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We also have VKS Accounting at Jimboomba Junction Shopping Centre in Jimboomba for Logan and the southern corridor. Clients anywhere in Australia can meet us by video.

What does a business accountant in Brisbane do beyond tax returns?

A good one plans ahead. Beyond tax returns, BAS and bookkeeping, we provide virtual CFO reporting, cash flow forecasts, structuring advice, business valuations, due diligence on acquisitions and exit planning. The aim is to make decisions easier and the tax bill predictable, rather than simply reporting what happened last year.

How much does an accountant cost in Brisbane?

It depends on the work. A straightforward individual return costs far less than a multi-entity group with monthly reporting. We quote fixed fees for defined scopes after a strategy call, so you know what you are paying before we start. Ongoing packages bundle compliance and advisory into a predictable monthly amount.

Do you work with businesses outside Brisbane?

Yes. Roughly half our work is done by video, with clients across Queensland and interstate. Xero, electronic signing and a secure document portal mean location is rarely a barrier. If you like the way we work and you are in Townsville or Melbourne, the experience is much the same as sitting in Victoria Point.

Can you help me buy or sell a business in Brisbane?

That is a core service. For buyers we provide valuation, financial due diligence, deal structuring and negotiation support. For sellers we help prepare the business, understand what it is worth, structure the sale sensibly and plan what happens to the proceeds. Greg has more than twenty years of experience in business acquisitions.

Are you a Xero accountant in Brisbane?

Yes. The group is a Xero Platinum Partner, and most of our Brisbane clients run their bookkeeping, BAS and payroll on Xero. We set up new files, migrate from other software and connect the add-ons that suit your industry. If you are on another platform we can still help, but Xero usually makes everything smoother.
