Why we call ourselves a new-era accounting firm
Plenty of accounting firms were built around the lodgement calendar. Returns go in, BAS goes out, and the phone rings once a year. That model is fine for keeping the ATO happy. It does very little for the business you are actually trying to build.
Acquire Strategic Accounting started with a different question: what would an accounting firm look like if it was designed by someone who had built and bought businesses, not just counted them? Our founder, Greg Blackaby, is an accountant turned entrepreneur. He owns and runs several Brisbane accounting firms, and he has spent more than 20 years in accounting, tax, advisory, structuring and business acquisitions.
New-era, to us, means the numbers are a starting point for decisions, not a historical record. It means cloud tools, fast answers and advisers who are genuinely interested in what you are doing with your business.
Strategy first, compliance done properly
Strategy-first does not mean compliance-last. Tax returns, BAS and bookkeeping still get done on time and done well. They are the foundation. The difference is what we build on top of it.
Before we talk about this quarter's BAS, we want to know where the business is heading. Are you scaling up, restructuring, adding entities, bringing in a partner or planning an exit? Those answers change how we set up your structure, how we plan your tax and what we look at in your numbers each month.
That is why our services run from Accounting & Tax through Virtual CFO and Business Advisory, Structuring & Asset Protection, Mergers, Acquisitions & Exit Planning and SMSF accounting. Each one is a different lens on the same goal: a business that is worth more and easier to run.
Creative thinking, inside the ATO's rules
Creative accounting has a bad name, and rightly so. What we mean by creative thinking is different. It is the habit of looking at a problem from a few angles before settling on the obvious answer.
A cash flow squeeze might be a pricing issue, a structuring issue or a timing issue. A growth plan might work better across a group of entities than inside one Pty Ltd. A sale might be worth more with two years of preparation than with none. Finding those angles is the fun part of the job.
Every idea is tested against the ATO's current rules and against your appetite for complexity. Clever only counts if it is also sound, and simple usually beats elaborate.
Three accounting firms under one roof
Acquire Strategic Accounting in Victoria Point now sits alongside VKS Accounting in Jimboomba and Veal & Prasad. Bringing three firms together gives clients a bigger team, two physical offices and a wider pool of experience, without losing the local accountant feel.
It also reflects what we tell clients about acquisitions: growth by buying well is a real strategy. We practise what we advise.

Who we work with
Our clients are mostly owner-led businesses in Queensland and across Australia. They tend to be at a point where the business has outgrown its original setup, or where a big decision is coming.
Industries we see often include construction contracting, franchising, real estate agencies, allied health, transport and NDIS providers. We also meet plenty of businesses that do not fit a category. That is fine. The thinking travels.
- SMEs scaling up or restructuring
- Entrepreneurs building multi-entity groups
- Founders preparing a business for sale
- Investors assessing an acquisition
- Businesses in complex or high-growth phases
Recognised for the work, judged on the results
Across 2024 and 2025 the firm was nominated for Firm of the Year, LYD Strategist of the Year, the Grant Abbott Innovation Award and the Karbon Excellence Award for Client Excellence. We are also a Xero Platinum Partner.
Award nominations are nice. What we care about more is what clients say. As Mitch and Kelsey from Lovelock Contracting put it: "From day one, Acquire Strategic Accounting have been nothing short of amazing and have greatly surpassed our expectations."
If that sounds like the kind of accountant you have been looking for, the next step is a conversation.
Questions we get asked
What makes Acquire Strategic Accounting different from other Brisbane accounting firms?
We start with strategy rather than the lodgement calendar. Compliance is done properly, but the real work is helping you structure, grow, buy or sell a business. Our founder is an accountant turned entrepreneur, so advice comes from someone who has built and bought businesses, not just reported on them. Three firms under one roof give us depth without losing the local feel.
Do I need to be a big business to work with you?
No. Most of our clients are owner-led small and medium businesses. What they have in common is a decision ahead of them: scaling up, adding entities, bringing in a partner or preparing to sell. If your business has outgrown its original setup, or you want someone to think with you rather than just lodge for you, we are a good fit.
Where are your offices?
We have two offices. Acquire Strategic Accounting is at 7/222 Colburn Avenue, Victoria Point QLD 4165, phone 07 3899 9934. Our Jimboomba office, VKS Accounting, is at Jimboomba Junction Shopping Centre, 10b/671 Cusack Lane, Jimboomba QLD 4280, phone 07 5546 9158. Both offices offer the full service range, and we work with clients Australia-wide by video.
Can you work with my business if I am not in Brisbane?
Yes. A large share of our clients are outside Brisbane, across Queensland and interstate. Video meetings, shared Xero files and electronic signing mean location rarely matters. Australian tax law is national, so the advice is the same wherever you are. State-based matters, such as payroll tax and duty, are handled with the relevant state's rules in mind.
Do you still do tax returns, BAS and bookkeeping?
Absolutely. Accounting and tax compliance is the foundation of everything else we do, and we take it seriously. Returns, BAS, bookkeeping and tax planning are all handled in-house. The difference is that we use that work as the starting point for strategy, so your numbers are doing something for you rather than just being filed.
